As part of the ongoing engagement with public schools to advocate cleanliness and good hygiene practices, Chairman of the Public Hygiene Council (PHC), Mr Edward D’Silva initiated a series of visits to primary schools since 2017.
Between July and August 2019, visits were made to Greenwood Primary School, Opera Estates Primary School, Ang Mio Kio Primary School and Riverside Primary School. Mr D’Silva and PHC staff met with principals, environment education advisors, department heads and teachers to discuss initiatives and programs that nurtures in children the core value of keeping public spaces clean and caring for the environment.
PHC visits to the schools were well-received. Department Head of Character and Citizenship Education (CCE), Mrs Sainava Shahrin (Opera Estate Primary School) expressed that the school had seen a positive behavioural change in their students after the introduction of daily routinised cleaning in MOE schools.
